Diesel Price Today, July 2, 2026: Check Latest Diesel Rates in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata & Other Cities

India's diesel prices remained unchanged on Thursday, July 2, 2026, according to the latest available update issued by Indian Oil and other Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs). While global crude oil prices continue to witness moderate fluctuations, retail diesel rates across most Indian cities have not seen any revision in today's daily price update. Prices are revised every morning at 6:00 AM, and consumers can check the latest rates through official OMC platforms. Prices are based on the latest available update from Indian Oil and other Oil Marketing Companies.

For millions of truck operators, farmers, logistics companies, commercial vehicle owners and daily commuters, stable diesel prices offer short-term relief from rising transportation costs. Since diesel is widely used in freight movement, agriculture and public transport, even a small change in fuel prices can directly influence operating expenses and, eventually, the prices of essential goods.

Diesel Price Today: Latest Update

As of July 2, 2026, there has been no change in diesel prices across major Indian cities compared with the previous day. Oil Marketing Companies including Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum continue to revise retail fuel prices daily after reviewing several domestic and international market factors.

Although international crude oil prices remain one of the biggest drivers of fuel costs, Indian retail diesel prices are also influenced by the rupee-dollar exchange rate, refining costs, freight charges and taxes imposed by both the Central and State Governments.

Interestingly, diesel remains the backbone of India's transport sector. Heavy commercial vehicles, buses, tractors, construction equipment and industrial machinery depend heavily on diesel. Because of this, stable fuel prices help businesses manage logistics expenses more effectively.

Cities with the Highest Diesel Prices

As per the latest fuel price update for July 2, 2026, Kochi (₹104.40/litre) and Hyderabad (₹103.82/litre) continue to record some of the highest diesel prices among India's major cities. They are followed by Bhubaneswar (₹100.68), Patna (₹100.20), Kolkata (₹99.82) and Chennai (₹99.65).

Higher diesel prices in these cities are mainly driven by state VAT, local taxes, transportation costs and dealer commissions. Since diesel is the primary fuel for commercial vehicles, logistics companies and agricultural machinery, higher fuel rates can increase operating costs and indirectly affect the prices of goods and services across the region.

Cities with the Lowest Diesel Prices

Several Indian cities continue to offer comparatively lower diesel prices because of lower state VAT and reduced local taxes. Chandigarh, Shimla, Srinagar and Guwahati remain among the major cities where diesel is priced below the national average.

Lower fuel prices help private vehicle owners, transport operators and farmers reduce their daily operating costs. Regional tax policies and efficient fuel distribution are the key reasons these cities continue to record more affordable diesel rates.

Why Diesel Prices Change Every Day

Diesel prices in India are revised every morning at 6:00 AM under the dynamic fuel pricing system followed by Oil Marketing Companies such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum.

Several important factors influence these daily revisions.

Global Crude Oil Prices

Crude oil is the primary raw material used to produce diesel. Whenever international crude prices rise, refining costs also increase, which may eventually affect retail diesel prices in India.

Rupee-Dollar Exchange Rate

India imports a significant portion of its crude oil requirements. Since crude purchases are made in US dollars, any weakening of the Indian Rupee against the US Dollar increases the import cost for oil companies.

State VAT

Every state government imposes its own Value Added Tax on diesel. This is one of the biggest reasons why diesel prices vary from one state to another.

Central Excise Duty

Apart from state taxes, the Central Government also levies excise duty on fuel. Any revision in these duties can influence the retail selling price.

Refining and Transportation Costs

Fuel must be refined, transported and delivered to retail outlets across the country. Changes in freight costs, storage expenses and dealer commissions also play an important role in determining final prices.

Oil Marketing Companies

Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum review international market conditions every day before updating fuel prices. Their pricing decisions are based on global crude trends, exchange rates and domestic market conditions.

Expert Opinion

According to energy market observers, India's diesel pricing continues to remain closely linked with international crude oil movements rather than short-term domestic demand alone.

Global crude prices have remained relatively balanced in recent sessions despite geopolitical uncertainties in some oil-producing regions. At the same time, production decisions by OPEC+ continue to influence worldwide crude supply, making international developments an important factor for Indian fuel prices.

Currency movements also deserve close attention. A stronger Indian Rupee can reduce crude import costs, while a weaker Rupee may increase pressure on Oil Marketing Companies.
